Q: What do former ICC participants want you to know before you come?

Answer:
  • Don't let the name fool you. This is not an academic course geared towards only the mind. Prepare to bring your heart and prepare for your heart to get worked on.
  • Really take advantage of meeting people at JAARS and eating with them at the cafeteria.
  • Resist the urge to complain and challenge things that make you uncomfortable. Accept the idea that you will be placed in uncomfortable and unusual situations, so don't complain about them, learn from them.
  • Arrive here at least 2 days before the 1st day. Even 3 days would be better.
  • Arrive early to get settled.
  • Keep your calendar free for full participation in ICC.
  • Don't plan to visit with friends in the area!
  • Come with a open learner's heart and don't schedule anything else during the course.
  • Laugh!
  • Be ready for some good--but occasionally hard--topics to be covered, and be ready to really engage with the people there, because you'll probably get more out of it if you really engage.
  • Have an open heart. Try everything and even if you do not understand why something is being done or do not want to do something because it seems below you, do it anyways. We always did something for a reason!
  • Be flexible and honest with yourself.
  • Know that the staff wants to encourage you, that they want the course to be a huge blessing to you, and that they are praying for you. Their hearts are invested - so learn from them all that you can!
  • It is not wrong to have a lot of questions and to leave with even more.
  • Make sure you are getting enough sleep before and for the first two weeks!
  • You will get out of it what you put into it. Assume Goodwill.
  • Take it all in, let it resonate and enjoy every minute!
